Grace Church Brooklyn Heights
254 Hicks Street
Brooklyn Heights NY
Tuesdays at 7 pm, September – June
Our contemplative group has been meeting for twelve years. We meet inside a beautiful, recently renovated historic church that helps enfold the silence. We begin with a chanted psalm and brief period of intercessory prayer. We pray two twenty minute periods of centering prayer separated by a brief walking meditation. We conclude with lectio divina and either the Night Prayer from the New Zealand Prayer Book or the Casa Del Sol version of the Lord’s Prayer.
We explicitly welcome everyone to our group, whatever their beliefs or doubts, using inclusive language, inviting people to use the two twenty minute periods of silence in any way that is right for them, and providing a printed program to help people follow along. We rotate between three leaders, Lindsay Boyer, Jim Connell and David James. Our group is especially appealing to people who like a lot of silence and not too much discussion. There is more information about the group at Lindsay’s website.
Grace Church Brooklyn Heights is easy to get to, the first or second stop in Brooklyn depending on whether you take the 2, 3, 4, 5, R, A, C, or F trains, which all stop nearby.
